Bernardo de Galvez played such an important part in the liberation of this country from the British, the founding fathers would toast George Washington, and then Bernardo de Galvez, as the two people most responsible for our liberation.
Following the Spanish-American War (1898) many of the history books had reference to Spanish and Mexican patriots removed. The Bernardo de Galvez Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) feels that this injustice done to those who sacrificed blood and treasure for our freedoms should be remedied.
The project will feature a larger than life bronze statue of the likeness of Bernardo de Galvez on horseback, with a raised sword. This action replica will be complemented with plaques explaining his role in the revolution for the public to view. There will also be plaques naming the large contributors, and the site will be paved with engraved bricks which will recognize smaller donors.
